Peter Libby, M.D. is a world-renowned physician-scientist, who has made fundamental contributions to our understanding of the molecular biology of atherosclerosis and the role of inflammation in the pathogenesis of coronary atherosclerosis.

Dr. Libby holds the position of the Mallinckrodt Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School and is a Cardiovascular Specialist at the Brigham and Women's Hospital of Boston. He has held numerous leadership positions at the Harvard system, including the Chief of Cardiovascular Medicine at Brigham.

Dr. Libby has authored over 1,200 articles, which are published in the New England Journal of Medicine, The Lancet, PNAS, Journal of Clinical Investigation, Nature, and Nature Medicine to name a few. His publications have been cited over 250,000 times. Dr. Libby has an H-index of 246 and has been recognized as one of the highly cited authors for several years, including the current year. His seminal work on the immunology of atherosclerosis has been paradigm-shifting and culminated in the design and implementation of Canakinumab Anti-Inflammatory Thrombosis Outcomes Trial (CANTOS), whose findings substantiated inflammation as a therapeutic target in atherosclerosis.

Dr. Libby has been recognized worldwide for his seminal scientific contributions by numerous prestigious awards and honorary degrees, including the highest Basic Research Award from the American Heart Association, the Distinguished Scientist Award from the American College of Cardiology, the Gold Medal of the European Society of Cardiology, the Anitschkow award from the European Atherosclerosis Society, The Ernst Jung Gold Medal for Medicine, and the Earl Benditt award for vascular biology. He has lectured throughout the world at numerous prestigious universities and has delivered over 150 named and keynote speakerships.

Dr. Libby has served in numerous leadership positions globally, including the President of the International Atherosclerosis Society, the President of the Association of University Cardiologists, and chairmanship of several committees at academic research institutions. He serves in various capacity on the Editorial Boards of several journals, including the JCA, and as the Editor-in-Chief of Braunwald's Textbook on Heart Disease. His research programs have been continuously funded by the National Institutes of Health, The American Heart Association, and the Leducq Foundation. Dr. Libby has directed the DW Reynolds Cardiovascular Clinical Research Center at the Harvard system.

This webinar is named after Eugene Braunwald, M.D. who has been a mentor to Dr. Libby. Dr. Braunwald is the most eminent physician-scientist of our times and is recognized as the founding father of modern cardiology.
